Witness to A Genocide & the Aftermath of Colonialism

The program will feature a viewing of the 30minute film titled “The Witness” followed by a Q&A session with Pequot Museum Executive Director, Joshua Carter and a panel of Pequots who will take a detailed look at the 1637 massacre of the Pequot village and a deep dive into the very real, very important history of this nation that would eventually become the United States of America.

Considering the Pequot War was the first war between the original people of Turtle Island and the English, this is an opportunity to look back and have a dialogue about the aftermath effects of colonialism over time and its impact to our communities of today.

Colonialism is not an act of the past but an active aspect to who America is today. The program will feature a viewing of the “3 Perspectives” followed a deep dive into the very real, very important conversation about our current culture and how we are all effected by colonialism. This program creates a safe space for our communities to be heard and respected as we navigate the past, present and future of this world we have been given. Being able to identify, confront, and dismantle the ideologies of colonialism is critical to becoming better allies to indigenous people.
