Discover the Artistry of 18th-Century Quillwork
Join us for an immersive workshop exploring the rich tradition of quillwork, with a focus on the Eastern Woodlands. We’ll examine recreated examples alongside surviving historical pieces, uncovering the distinctive styles and regional influences that shaped this intricate art form.
Participants will delve into the transition from historical quillwork to beadwork, learning about the sourcing, processing, sorting, and dyeing of quills. We’ll also discuss leather selection before practicing two major historic techniques—folded and linework quillwork.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to craft their own bracelet or earrings, embracing the techniques and artistry of generations past.
